Jalen Dampier: Eagle Eye Sports Athlete of the Week
Eagle Eye Sports is pleased to announce that this week’s Eagle Eye Sports Athlete of the Week is Jalen Dampier.
Jalen, a rising senior, plays both Quarterback and Cornerback at North Cobb Christian School. In his first season at NCCS, he broke school records in yards passed, total touchdowns scored, and interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. Jalen was tied for second in interceptions in heavily recruited Cobb County, GA.
Jalen has been playing organized football since he was 5 years old. Growing up, he also played basketball, baseball, and ran track. He has continued to play basketball at NCCS, where he is the team captain and averaged 13 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assts, and 2 steals in his junior season.
Jalen recently returned from one of the toughest camps of the summer – Sound Mind Sound Body. When asked about his approach, he said that he figured that there would be a lot of schools there that had not seen him perform. He wanted to use that opportunity to get evaluated by those schools and also compete with some of the best. Since the camp, Jalen has received several offers with the most recent being from North Carolina Central University.
Following a season where he led his team to its first ever winning season, Jalen’s team goals for this year is to go undefeated. North Cobb Christian is known primarily as a basketball powerhouse, but he wants the school to be just as known for its strong football program. As far as his personal goals, he would like to lead the county in both TDs and interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. With his impressive season last year, his goals are definitely attainable.
Jalen’s motivation has always been to compete at the highest level and to make his Mom proud. His words to live by come from Luke 18:37 – What is impossible with man, is possible with God. “Don’t let anyone tell you that your dreams are unattainable. Stay focused and motivated, and, with faith in God, you will receive the desires of your heart”.
